Manaslu Circuit Trek Summary

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s most rewarding trekking adventures—renowned for its natural beauty, cultural richness, and relative seclusion compared to Annapurna or Everest. The trekking, encircling Mount Manaslu (8,163 m / 26,781 ft), the world’s eighth-highest peak, lies in the northern Gorkha district and offers an authentic Himalayan trekking experience.

Our 11-day Manaslu Circuit short itinerary at Guide in Himalaya is designed for fit trekkers with prior high-altitude trekking experience, including complete services such as a local Manaslu guide, trekking permits, and essential trip logistics. We are readily available to arrange the trip every week for upcoming seasons and the months of 2026, the best seasons, until May, from the months of March and April. Autumn season (September, October, and November)

Trip Overview

The journey and its very first day of the itinerary begin in Kathmandu, followed by a scenic drive to Machha Khola (869 m), a riverside village on the Budhi Gandaki. From lush rice paddies and terraced hillsides, the trail gradually climbs through Gurung settlements and rhododendron forests into Kutang (Lower Nubri), where Tibetan-influenced culture thrives.

Continuing into Upper Nubri, trekkers encounter yak caravans, centuries-old trade routes, and Tibetan villages shaped by migration and resilience. Highlights include day hikes to Pungyen Gompa, Manaslu Base Camp, and Rui La Pass near the Tibetan border, as well as the dramatic crossing of the snow-covered Larke La Pass (5,105 m / 16,800 ft.) into the Annapurna region.

Why is the Manaslu Circuit Trek special among so many trekking routes in Nepal?

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a spectacular journey around the world's eighth-highest mountain, offering a pristine and less-crowded alternative to the famous Annapurna Circuit. Here are some key highlights that describe it best:

  • Unique blend of cultural immersion from Brahms to Tibetan-influenced tradition and lifestyle in high areas.
  • You'll find ancient gompas (monasteries) and mani walls miles long and encounter the unique culture and traditions.
  • Visit the sacred Himalayan valley steeped in ancient Tibetan Buddhism. Experience the mental peace and spirituality here that are palpable.
  • Traversing Larkya La Pass (5,106 m / 16,700 ft)—a challenge but rewarded with a thrilling experience—is the absolute pinnacle of the trek, both literally and figuratively.
  • You will be surrounded by the most breathtaking panoramic views in the Himalayas including Manaslu (8,163m), Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, and the Annapurna II range
  • The trek takes you through an incredible diversity of scenery. You start in the lush, subtropical foothills with terraced farms, ascend through dense rhododendron and pine forests, and enter the rugged, high-altitude terrain of the Larkya Pass.
  • The remote and "off-the-beaten-path" areas offer tranquility and authenticity, as the restricted area permit limits the number of trekkers.
  • Villages like Samagaon and Samdo are dotted with prayer flags, chortens, and monasteries. The highlight is the Pungyen Gompa, a monastery nestled right beneath the towering face of Mt. Manaslu, offering a stunning and spiritual setting.
  • The thrilling suspension bridges are an adventurous element: The trail features numerous long, high suspension bridges draped with prayer flags, swinging over roaring turquoise rivers like the Budhi Gandaki. They add an element of adventure and provide fantastic photo opportunities against the backdrop of deep gorges and massive peaks.
  • Warm, welcoming people and hospitality are incredibly sincere and personal.
  • Spectacular Mountain Vistas: Not just Mount Manaslu, find yourself surrounded by many peaks like Ngadi Chuli, Hiunchuli, Ganesh Himal, and Shringi Himal.
  • The Historic and Picturesque Old Tibetan trade routes, such as Bimthang, an old “slat trade route to Tibet”

The main means of transportation and accessing the trekking route to the Manaslu Circuit.

  • By Local Bus: Daily buses leave Kathmandu (6–7 am) for Arughat–Soti Khola. During festivals such as Dashain (Sept–Oct), buses are overcrowded, and advance booking is essential.
  • By Private Jeep: Ideal for groups (3 to 4+ people). More comfortable, faster, and reliable than public buses. Approximate cost: USD 175 per Jeep (shared among trekkers).

Road Conditions and Alternative Trails to Manaslu Round Trekking

Road construction has affected the first two days of the trail, with new roads extending toward Tibet. To avoid road sections, trekkers can take an alternative route via Arughat–Manbu–Kashi Gaon–Kerauja, reconnecting at Dovan, but this route lacks proper accommodation. This adds a couple of days but rewards trekkers with authentic cultural encounters and quieter paths.

Trekking to Manaslu Circuit: Rules and Regulations to Follow and Necessary Trekking Permits:

  • RAP (Restricted Area Permit) is necessary to enter the Manaslu Trek, and we have included it as part of the package trekking cost.
  • No solo trekking allowed; only a group trek is permitted to enter areas that are restricted and controlled trekking routes in Nepal.
  • No trekking is permitted without a registered guide; hence, hiring a licensed guide from a certified trekking company and arranging it with proper documentation is compulsory.
  • Besides RAP permits, additional permits such as ACAP and MCAP permits are necessary and also covered in the price featured.
  • A valid passport with a minimum six-month validity and a valid tourist visa are required and need to be submitted while applying for and issuing permission.

11-Day Circuit Trekking to Manaslu Package Cost and Itinerary 2026 Updates

There are some facts that determine the cost of the Manaslu Circuit hiking, such as the length of the trip, the group volume size, and the mode of travel arrangements. At Guide in Himalaya (affiliated with Wilderness Excursion), we have featured the package price of USD 899 for 10 nights and 11 days on the Manaslu Circuit per adult as a basic and budget-friendly package with a custom-made itinerary and a trekking porter included.

  • We offer some add-ons with additional costs to enhance your trip for a more comfortable trekking experience that could be your dream trip after a long time:
  • Private vehicle instead of bus: Local buses are typically slow and often crowded. Hire a 4WD private jeep to Machha Khola (USD 165 extra cost) that caters to 5 to 6 people.
  • Extended itinerary or side trips: Trip cost is calculated by number of days (the length of the itinerary).
  • Camping treks are less common now and more expensive, so this is a teahouse (lodge-to-lodge) trek.
  • You will need to carry some extra cash for personal expenses such as hot showers, internet, beverages, or celebrating the trip after Larke Pass (see the cost exclusion).
  • Accommodation and meals during the trek are included in the teahouse.
  • Local bus transport and shared jeep return to Kathmandu/Pokhara are included.

If you are interested in doing a trek in Nepal, I highly recommend Guide in Himalaya. After shopping around my friends and I settled on using this company for several reasons. Pardip is easy to work with, responsive, and offered a fair price. The trip views, guide, and experience were excellent.  If you have specific interests for a particular trek, make sure to mention those beforehand. We had some difficulty communicating trip adjustments to our guide.

Manaslu Circuit Trek 2015: A Journey from "Namaste" to "Tashidelek" and Beyond! As first-time trekkers in Nepal, we set out to explore the Manaslu Circuit in October 2015—geared up with a deep appreciation for local culture and a commitment to eco-friendly travel. However, the devastating earthquakes earlier that year left us uncertain: Were the trails safe? Was it ethical to visit so soon, or would our presence feel like crisis tourism? Safety was also a major concern—not just for us, but for our guide and porter. We nearly postponed the trip—until we met Pradip Tamang from Wilderness Excursions Pvt. Ltd., a turning point that transformed our entire experience. Pradip wasn’t just a guide; he was a walking encyclopedia of the Manaslu region. His expertise covered everything from altitude sickness and trail conditions to local customs, flora, and fauna. What set him apart was his honesty—he gave us clear, realistic expectations while remaining flexible to adapt to the post-earthquake landscape. His deep connections in the area meant we had reliable, up-to-date information at every step. We wanted an authentic, low-impact journey—no tourist traps, just real encounters with local life. Pradip made it happen: staying in homestays, cooking dal bhat together, learning to make momos, and warming up with dudh chiya (milk tea) by the fire after long trekking days. Thanks to him, we didn’t just see Nepal—we experienced it, gaining a deeper understanding of the region’s challenges and resilience. Beyond the incredible landscapes, what made this trip unforgettable was Pradip himself—along with his assistant, Rahul. Their professionalism, warmth, and dedication turned a simple trek into an adventure we’ll always cherish. Now, we’re already dreaming of our next trek—perhaps Dolpa?

  • The trek is classified as challenging. Though it is not technical climbing, it requires moderately good physical fitness and endurance. Some factors influencing the trek’s difficulty include:
  •  Length of Trek – Covering 177 kilometers (110 miles), the trek demands 6–8 hours of walking daily, often on steep, rugged trails.
  •  High Altitude—The highest point, Larke La Pass (5,106 m), poses challenges such as thin air, steep ascents, and cold temperatures.
  •  Remote Terrain: The trail is less developed, meaning limited access to medical facilities or luxury teahouses.
  • Manaslu Circuit Trek: Snowfall, landslides, or heavy rains can make certain sections difficult, especially in off-seasons.
  • Climate change weather also has an impact on weather change and calamities.

Who can do it?

Winter (December – February):

  •   Extremely cold at higher altitudes, with heavy snowfall on the pass.
  •   Not recommended unless you are an experienced trekker with winter gear.

Monsoon (June–August): The summer trek is possible, but heavy rain causes landslides that sometimes make the trail risky.

  • Views are often obscured by clouds.

  • Slow or gentle hike:  Avoid fast ascend! It is always wise to hike slowly and gradually—no rush!
